How to Remotely Access Other Computers with Chrome Remote Desktop

Chrome Remote Desktop allows you to connect to another computer for remote access. After connecting to another computer using a remote remote system, you can view the screen, type, move the mouse, or send key combinations, such as Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Chrome Remote Desktop supports two different settings: Access that is always permitted or accessed only once. The first configuration allows you to connect to other computer systems at any time. This configuration works well for systems that you often control and are always turned on, such as a desktop (or server). The second setting supports temporary remote access to the system with a one-time code. This option gives you the best way to handle remote support or troubleshooting clients, friends, or anyone who needs remote support.

You can control the system remotely either with the application (on Android or iOS), or from the Chrome browser (on Chrome OS, Windows, macOS, or Linux). And you can install the Chrome Remote Desktop host application on most systems running Windows, macOS, or modern Linux distributions. The system that runs one of these operating systems can function as the host (host), from which you can share the screen.

Configure Connection

To configure the connection, open remotedesktop.google.com. Then select "Remote Access" for remote access that is always available or choose "Remote Support" for only one time access permission.

1. Next, click the blue (download) button in the lower right corner to download the Chrome Remote Desktop application. Wait a while until the plugin window opens. Then you must allow the browser to install.

2. Then wait a while longer before clicking the "Accept & Install" message that appears. You also have to select "Yes" to allow Chrome Remote Desktop to open chromeremotedesktop.msi.

3. After that, enter a name for your computer, then select "Next." This is the name that will appear when you open the Chrome Remote Desktop application. If you have many computers configured for remote access, the names given can help distinguish one system from another.

4. Next, add a PIN. Using a PIN will add an additional layer of security. Even if your Google username and password are known, hackers also need a PIN to connect. PIN length must be at least 6 digits.

5. Finnaly, select "Yes" to allow "Native messaging host for remote host management."

After you complete the steps above, your system will appear with the name you set, along with the status "Online."

Connect The System

You can then connect to a system that is configured for remote access from another Chrome desktop browser or from the Chrome Remote Desktop mobile application.

Chrome Remote Desktop can be a great way for people to remotely access desktop systems. My client uses it for remote access to desktop applications, as well as remote access to Windows servers. And I often use it to provide remote support.
